Marriage, only a financial arrangement?
Maybe?
My opinion goes in its favour. We have heard marriages are for progeny. Togetherness, love, propagation of the human race, etc etc. I have seen people, loving someone else and marrying a completely different person, so my head doesn't absorb it. For propagation - well, you don't need marriage to produce kids; people have kids outside of marriage also, so, this also doesn't sound convincing.
What I accept, is that, maybe for togetherness - permanent with one partner for a lifetime could be the reason. Secondly of course! comfort. We have seen parents ask the prospective groom what he earns and the prospective bride if she is skilled in daily household chores, to efficiently manage a home.
Everyone pours in gifts on wedding ceremonies, to make this future living comfortable and secure. We see gold ornaments parked in lockers; they serve more as invested assets for the rainy day than everyday wearing of jewellery. Transfer/gifting of plots of land, cash, and properties are again investments meant to serve as financial securities.
In marriage, the couple together also, endeavours to add on more financial securities in the shape of more plots of land, houses, gold, shares, mutual funds, fixed deposits for their children, and the cycle repeats itself. So, my vote is still in favour of seeing it as a financial arrangement.
